Hoptoad Enterprises Ltd was founded by Donal O'Neill in 2006 to provide consultancy serices in Strategic Planning, Business Simulations, Scenario Building and Socio Economic Impact Managment. In 2007 he was joined by his daughter, Nerissa Warner-O'Neill a CEDR accredited mediator and non practicing solicitor who expanded the Hoptoad portfolio to provide mediation services. Hoptoad Enterprises Ltd is based in Farnham, Surrey in the UK but is closely associated with Australia's Resource Advisors. Hoptoad Enterprises Ltd operate in diverse countries across four continents. Donal O'Neill Donal is fascinated by how societies as diverse as the Netherlands, Norway, Great Britain, Nigeria and Venezuela had reacted socially, culturally and economically to the presence of extractive industries, and with how incapable or often unwilling private business often is of appreciating or managing the impact that its presence has. He is convinced of the need for strong but imaginative - not bureaucratic - government regulation to ensure win-win outcomes for both business and host societies. One result of this interest was development of scenario-based role-playing simulation tools, for use both for industry and in universities, including Oxford (UK), Columbia (New York City) and George Washington University (Washington DC), the Catholic University of Guayaquil (Ecuador), Whitman College (Washington State, USA), the University of Valencia (Spain), the Asian Institute of Management (Manila, Philippines) and the municipal government of Bilbao (Spain). Such simulations address the interplay of Social, Economic and Political drivers in complex investment and strategic decision-making by government and industry, while also taking into account the direct and indirect influences that can be brought to bear by opposition groups, multilaterals, NGOs, media and local communities. Simulations
created in recent years are based on situations as diverse as discovery
of oil and gas reserves in African or Central American countries, the
reactivation of the mining industry in the Philippines, nationalisation
of the mining and gas industries in a South American nation, the challenges
of economic recession in a European city and the expansion of an urban
transport system in one in Latin America. Use of such simulations permits
players whether from government, business, NGO, community or media
backgrounds - to understand how the other stakeholders feel, think and
operate and to develop better strategies than previously for reaching
mutually satisfactory outcomes. Specialties Integrating technological, financial, political and "soft" disciplines - demonstrated when running oil ventures in Turkey and Venezuela, in each case turning around loss-making companies which were facing major political and social problems. Subsquent academic and consulting work reflects this. Nerissa Warner-O'Neill Nerissa practiced for 5 years as a commercial litigator with Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP. She had a broad practice encompassing Financial, Logistical, Real Estate, Environmental and Chemical disputes. During her years in practice Nerissa took matters to trial in the Lands Tribunal, Technology & Construction Court and the Commercial Court. However, Nerissa strongly believes that formal proceedings are a last resort and wherever possible worked to resolve disputes through mediation. Nerissa was so impressed by the efficacy and efficiency of this method of dispute resolution that she decided to train as a mediator and concentrate on the provision of mediation services. Nerissa achieved accreditation from CEDR in 2007. Nerissa is also an accredited community mediator and volunteers with a community mediation service. In 2007 Nerissa was recruited as a Director of Hoptoad Enterprises Ltd. In November 2008 the Preston Conservative Association selected Nerissa as their candidate in the 2010 General Election. Prior to the election Nerissa worked with residents, local businesses, voluntary organisations and other stakeholders to understand the issues that are important to Preston constituents.
Nerissa has specialised in all aspects of Dispute Resolution including litigation, mediation, and negotiation. She is an accomplished public speaker, comfortable with making presentations, taking questions and chairing discussion panels. Nerissa
is adept at analyzing complex technological processes in order properly
to understand the industry background of her client.
